Katsura Imperial Villa, Kyoto, Japan
The moon viewing platform at the Katsura Imperial Villa; representative of the beauty and deep spirituality to be found amid unique Japanese simplicity. The moon viewing platform was constructed specifically just for the viewing of the moon, and juts out over the garden. This is a clear representation of the Japanese aesthetic and general ideas that place a great emphasis on the existence of the moon and treating it as a holy thing. At night from the moon viewing platform a world of deep shadows can be observed, with the moon in the sky and the moon on the water illuminating the scene from above and below.
